Host Rooms

Host rooms provide great opportunity to win free prizes and trade with Hosts for retired pins and other items. Sometimes these rooms are games, quests, "hang-out" rooms, or a ride where you must choose the correct path to win a prize.

What is a Host?

A Host is a member of the VMK Staff in charge of entertainment and providing fun and games for the members of VMK. Their names begin with HOST_ and they either wear the regular staff uniform or an unreleased costume relating to the month’s theme.

  • HOST_Hula
  • HOST_Hurricane

Entering a Host Room

HostRoomIcon.jpg

Host rooms are marked with the "VMK Staff" badge icon in the room list. Although this badge is often used, sometimes it will not be found on a HOST's game room. You can also search for "HOST_" to find their rooms. Be careful - some players will create rooms with a similar name to attract you to their room instead of the host room.

If there is a queue of more than five people, you can choose to get a VMK Pass. This pass allows you to hold your place in line while you walk around the Kingdom. Be careful you don't miss your time, however, since the VMK Pass notice doesn't display while you are playing games. You may also choose to wait in the queue.

Prizes

The prize for winning any game is usually a Host pin. The Host pin is part of the monthly pin set, but is never sold. However, during some games and months, additional prizes may be given out.

Prizes are usually given through an automated message room. If you win, you will be placed in this room through a teleporter, and a message will pop up telling you what you have won. Along with a message, the host prize will be placed into your inventory.

Tips

  • To get the quickest way into the room, 2 minutes before the event, go into the Guest Rooms window. Search either "Host_" or the Host's name. You do NOT want to search for the title of the event because some players set up fake room titles trying to copy the Hosts. Then keep clicking search until the room pops up and click and enter. You will probably not be as far back as those who waited for it to appear on the popular guest rooms list.
  • HOST_ prize rooms award you a prize on your first visit into it. Since HOST_ games are open for three hours, and the prize rooms award a prize every two hours, if you can time it right you can receive two prizes.
  • If one of your friends are in, instead of keep opening the guest room list and clicking Enter room, just click the friend and press enter room as fast as you can to get in. Now this is only when you didn't get in early.

Games

The games Hosts play can be spinning games, racing games, or a type of game where you race to find the correct teleporter.

Spinning Games

The spinning games require three random number generators. The player spins the generators. If a certain combination is reached, or sometimes a certain number (example: you may have to get a combination 3-4-5 or the total number must add up to more than 12.) The combination/total is determined and changed daily by the Host holding the game. There is another version where one generator is used and the prize you get is determined by a set of rules. (Example: If you get a 2, you win the Host pin if you get a 4, you win a chair, etc.)

Racing Games

The racing games generally involve a certain number of players (4-6) to enter an area of a room. Each player sits in a chair and races to the endpoint. The first player to reach it wins a pre-determined prize. These vary by being the first to reach an endpoint, the first to make it to the top of a stack of chairs, or the first to make it to one chair (like falling chairs).

Starting on 18 February 2007, Host_Sparky held an event called "Chase Race" and this event included an exclusive prize called the VMK Race 07 Pin that can only be won at his events. YavnSpks-2007-02-05-RacePin.jpg

Teleporter Games

The last main type of game is the Teleporter game. In these type games, players enter a roped-off area, and then try to go through teleporters until they find the correct one that will take them to the Host and their prize.

In this picture taken during January of 2007, HOST_Lily opens an event where you choose a random door and find if you win a prize! The prize is distributed once you enter a winning room after going through a door.

Yard Sales

A few Hosts have opened a new kind of Host game called a Yard Sale. A Host will fill a guest room with various items and hide some of the most rare items. You enter the room and must pay via Epcot Turnstile. (The cost is usually 50 credits) You then tell the Host what item you want or they may ask you where it is, if the item is more rare.

Hosts may also make specials, some players have asked for a yellow tiki and the Host may say "But a Pink Tiki is better". Which is true because the Pink is much more rare.

Trading Events

Host_Phinny's event, Winter Summerland Trades during June 2007
Hosts sometimes host special events where they will trade pins they are currently wearing for any pins besides the NPC and Buyable pins. Usually they accept weekly pins.
Also some pins given in these events were never released in any other way.

The ATIS eye pin was given out only during a couple select trading events.

Quests

These quests are usually available to everyone through the Quest button on the toolbar, however sometimes they are quests you must enter the room to compete in. These quests will sometimes award the same prize to everyone who completes the quest, and if they are in Host room it awards prizes based on the fastest times. They are usually short, easy quests that anyone can complete. They don’t usually require magic, and no extreme mini-game skills are needed. But the ones inside Host rooms can be very difficult but can even give away inferno!
This is an example of a Quest on the Q button
  • Even though the Quest may be on the Quest button the Hosts will open their room and it is always a good idea to enter those rooms just in case.
Hosts will set up rides in their rooms. Sometimes they will have a ride leading to the room where other quests can be found. Usually adding to the one on the Q button.

Hang-out Rooms

There are other rooms where you can just sit and have a great time with your fellow players and the Host. Sometimes there are photo-ops, and sometimes there are mini-games or quests. Random door prizes are frequently given out. Trivia may also occur and result in prizes.

Ride Rooms

Other times Hosts create rides. There is a main room with a bunch of teleporters. You choose one and it will take you on a ride. If you choose a certain one, it will take you to a prize room where you will automatically be given a prize.

Ride Rooms are often called Ride-A-Thons and are hosted during special holidays or events. Each Ride-A-Thon has multiple different ride "Start" rooms and usually a Ride-A-Thon would work like this:

1. Enter A room titled with the event and either a color or A identifying which start room it is. * Note: Make sure the room is hosted by a VMK Staff member ( VMK_ , QA_ , or HOST_ )

The room will be made out of any set of ride pieces. This was Green Ride-A-Thon Start Room A

2. Hop on the ride in the room and it will take you to the next room.

3. This room is the middle ride room and is not accessible through the guest room list, so don't try to shortcut.

4. You will be brought to the end room where you will receive a message stating what prize you won and you should be transported out of the room.

Prizes vary for each event and can or can not be won multiple times.

Special Events

During some months and around the Holidays, VMK dishes out some brand new Host events and they can be anything from mazes (October 2006) to just entering a room to receive a present (December 2006). These rooms vary in size and quantity and are sometimes obvious when they will be open a month ahead of time or for example, the VMK New Year's Bash for 2006 was not told to the players until 2 weeks into the month of December. While, the "Happy Holiday's From VMK" special event was released when the December calendar came out.

These messages was sent out during the Happy Holidays From VMK event during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2006

During Dreams Month, the DREAM Squad went around VMK granting players' dreams.

Preview Events

When new items or new rooms are to be released, a VMK staff, tester, or other VMK member will open to preview the new items or room. VMK staff may or may not be present at these select events. Take advantage of these events because some rooms may be exclusive or not released for several months.

During the second week of January staff opened a preview of a VMK staff exclusive room called Club 33.

Maze Events

In the past VMK has only released a couple of maze events and these maze events are much like Ride-A-Thons. The mazes consist of a Start Room, Middle Room, and Finish Room. The Finish room is where you receive a message saying Congratulations and presents you with your prize. Two examples of maze events are the Halloween Maze and VMK Football Super Bowl Maze. Each of these events has given out a pin and you can only get one on each account.

Usually maze events will have three rooms with the 3rd room giving you the prize.

For example:

VMK Football Maze Black

Black Start
Black Middle
Black End
