Yavn Speaks 10/23

Around The World Every 4-6 Weeks!

Greetings from around the World! Walt Disney World to be more exact. Why am sending the column in from Florida? Well most of the VMK creative team is here in Orlando to work on new Quests and content for upcoming builds of the game. Typically members of the team are in Orlando ever 4-6 weeks - it's our home away from home - so if you don't see me in the game you'll know why.

As you can see we keep making adjustments to the site, and more specifically the Newsletter - what do you guys think of the new logo for my section? Now you can find me each week in my very own section of the Newsletter. Plus, very soon you'll see a brand new column from Jake focusing on the parks. Also as I mentioned last week, we'll continue to refine things - like our pal Push. He'll continue his makeover and one of the cool things he'll be doing is something called Push's Pics!

The Last Mystery - Item!

I told you we saved the best for last! Maleficent and Cowboy! What was your favorite Halloween item? Vote in the poll and tell us! And if you missed any of those cool hats and costumes - don't worry - they will be back again! Also remember that you only have until the end of the month to get Halloween goodies!

Halloween Maze Event

Here's a last reminder for the Halloween Maze Event which will run from 10/30 - 10/31. Find your way to the end of the maze and win the new Halloween pin! (Please note, no matter how many times you complete the maze you only get one pin.) And yes that pin will be tradable for anyone who can't play.

That's all for now but stay tuned for next Monday when I'll give you a preview of what's in store for the holidays as well as making a major announcement about Major November Game Events! Now it's off to eat a Turkey Leg and take a ride on Test Track! Maybe I'll ride Test Track before I eat…

Enjoy the game,

Yavn

Tips, Tricks Hints and How To's

Getting high fireworks scores!

Have you ever hit all the fireworks in the Castle Fireworks Game and still not advanced to the next level? When the fireworks shoot up in the sky, wait until they almost burn out (when they begin to sparkle) and then click on them. The longer you wait before the disappear, the higher the score you will get. The more "flawless" clicks, the higher your score!

Dear Yeti

You've Got Questions, Yeti Has Answers

When Disneyland first opened, none of the rides were roller coaster-type thrills - what was the first fast ride at a Disney park?

-Pogoagogo

Dear Pogoagogo,

Inspired by the movie Third Man on the Mountain, the Matterhorn was part of a huge development project to enhance Fantasyland. Built by Arrow Dynamics, the Matterhorn Bobsleds was not only the first fast ride at any Disney Park (the attraction debuted in 1959, just four years after Disneyland opened), it also has another distinction - it's the world's first tubular steel roller coaster! Steel roller coasters existed before the Matterhorn but the cars rode on flat steel tracks, instead of tubular track. Today, almost all steel coasters ride on tube steel tracks - all decedents of the Matterhorn!

Dear Yeti, I read somewhere that Disney animated films use Rotoscope techniques? What is Rotoscoping?

-MissElizabethT

Dear MissElizabethT,

Besides a fancy technical term, rotoscoping is a technique used by animators to capture the lifelike and fluid movements of actors or animals. Basically it works like this: Animators capture live-action on film, then print the frames of action and use the images as a guide for animation. Original rotoscopes used by major Hollywood studios were actually projected onto glass and then traced by a studio animator. Disney animators actually preferred to use the action just as a guide for the animation, filling in the detail and animation by hand.

Do you have a question for the Yeti?

Send it to me through the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you (the email and information you registered with) and select "Dear Yeti" from the drop down menu. Each week I'll answer a question or two here in the Newsletter.

Push's Trash Trivia

image:NewsletterPushtrivia.jpg

What devilish Disney villain was brought to life by animator Bill Tytla (with the help of music by Modest Mussorgsky)?

Know the answer?

Send your answer using Contact Us at the bottom of this or the main VMK webpage. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you and select Push's Trash Trivia from the drop down menu. Out of all the correct answers, three players will be randomly drawn as the winners and sent a cool prize. But hurry! Only entries submitted by the close of game on Friday will be accepted.

Here's the answer to last weeks Trash Trivia question:

Q: Which real-life racing king voices The King in Disney-Pixar's Cars?

A: 7 time NASCAR Cup Champion Richard Petty provided his voice for The King.

image:Thekingcars.jpg

Did you know: The light blue color that The King is painted is the same color used on Richard Petty's 43 racecar. The color is so unique it even has its own name, Petty Blue. Be sure to listen for Richard's wife, Lynda Petty, who provides the voice for Mrs. The King in Cars too.

Congratulations to the 3 lucky (and randomly picked) players that sent in the correct answer for last week's question! Your prize is on its way!
