Yavn Speaks 11/27

Thanks!

Everyone still full from Thanksgiving? Did you get enough Turkey, Tofurkey, or whatever special things you eat for the holiday? I know you haven't seen me in a few days and that's because I'm taking some time off to be with my family (and play some Wii…camping out for it was a drag, but I'm having fun now!). Where I am hiding? The Eastern part of North Carolina, in a place with no broadband service (and hardly any cell reception) so I can't jump in the game and say hello! But I'll be back next week… until then, I've got an exciting update for you!

Dream On!

Kids grab your parents to enter this sweepstakes for a chance to win VMK prizes. Disney has teamed up with eBay and the good news for you is that there are 7 prizes (1 is familiar but has never been released and 6 brand new items). How do you enter for a chance to win VMK prizes? You will need to get your parents to visit winit.ebay.com and they must have a valid eBay account. Then just click on the Hidden Mickey game and look for Mickey! Each day is a new picture and another chance to enter to win.

The Sweepstakes is running from November 24 - December 3. Make sure your parents read the Official rules posted on the Web site. Last and most importantly, these codes will will only be valid until December 16, 2007. After that the codes will not work anymore!

Image:YavnSpks-2006-11-24-ebaydreams.jpg

Treasure Detector Magic and a Dreams Castle Turret Chair are just a few of the cool items you could win!

Now before you get upset and start sending letters, these are eBay requirements and not something we're doing to exclude our friends around the world. And one last note - if you can't play don't worry, you may see some of these cool new items back again but that's all I can say!

Push's Pics

Be sure and take a look at the trivia trashcan Push's latest trivia category, 'Where in the Park?' Every month Push will take a picture from somewhere in one of the Disney Parks. Your job? Identify the location or attraction. Send your answers for a chance to win a secret Push prize (and let me know if you think the pictures are too easy or hard - Push knows the parks pretty a little too well and can be a tricky little waste can.

Well that about wraps it up — remember to find those Mickeys and play the Football Quest to win the awesome football room. Uh-oh - almost missed my turn bowling on the Wii — hey, I'll need to get a bit more rest before heading down to Walt Disney World next week after all this!

Catch you in VMK,

Yavn

P.S. I'll have news on the Holiday Quests next week — until then don't forget we're looking for your entry in the 'Build Your Own Space Mountain' competition! This awesome room competition promises to take everyone on a great ride! Sign up now!

Conquer the Mountain

Announcing the 'Build Your Own Space Mountain' Competition!

RULES AND REGISTRATION

The 'Build Your Own Space Mountain' Competition is coming to VMK! This is an individual room competition. The objective of the competition? Make the best Space Mountain ride you can.

Your ride does not have to be modeled after any of the real Space Mountains but you must use only the new Space Mountain Track pieces (that can be purchased from the Inner-Space Shop).

Have fun and be creative - you can decorate it or build it however you like, but again remember, you must use the new Space Mountain Ride Tracks. Registration for the 'Build Your Own Space Mountain Ride' Competition starts today (11/20) and ends on Sunday (11/26). Here are the rules:

  • Your ride cannot exceed 3 rooms in length. This means you can either have 1, 2 or 3 rooms total for your ride.
  • The Start Room for your ride must be named in the following way: SpaceRace PLAYER NAME.

Here's an example: Space Race JoetheMouse.

Rides will be judged on the following categories, so keep these in mind when you're building your mountain: Best use of color, best theme, most creative and finally best overall ride experience.

10 winners and 1 Grand Prize winner will be chosen from each category.

Registration will be open Monday November 20th through Sunday November 26th. Only players that register exactly as instructed will be judged. Prizes will be announced after registrations have been closed and awarded after the competition has ened.

Now that you've had a chance to play with the new Space Mountain tracks are you ready to show us what you can do with them? Take your friends for a ride! Imagineer your version of Space Mountain using the track pieces provided in VMK. Have fun, be creative! Build it and they will come - you may even win!

34, 21, 12, Hike!

Didn't camp out all week for a PS3 or Wii? Not to worry VMK has some Thanksgiving gaming goodness that you will enjoy just as much! Like so many millions of families we're going to be celebrating this special day. No, I don't mean by eating turkey! I'm talking about the pigskin! As VMK proudly announces Football! Yes indeed, starting Thursday we will be launching a brand new Football Guest Room along with 2 football uniforms and a couple other goodies! Want a preview? Take a peek:

image:YavnSpks2006-11-20-football.jpg

Along with the football stuff we've even cooked up a new Quest, play and win and you could get a Football Randomizer! I suggest you brush up on those Disney Football classics... like Gus (you gotta love a movie that features Don Knotts (Barney Fife) and a field goal kicking Mule!), Air Bud: Golden Receiver (that dog is the Bo Jackson of canines!) and Remember The Titians (still a good movie, despite not having any football playing animals). And if you're hanging with Grandma for the holiday, don't worry, the football goodies will stay on sale until early February when that big bowl game takes place.

Interception! Touchdown! Pour Gatorade over the coaches head! Now wait a minute, I don't think that's an option…

Holiday Quests

As I've mentioned before we're bringing back Holiday Quests at both Disneyland Park and The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. We're just putting the finishing touches on them now but I should have more information for you next week. And before you ask, the Quest prizes will be the same as last year since we're saving new holiday items for in-game shops and activities.

Tips, Tricks Hints and How To's

Get Creative In Your Rooms

With the ride competition quickly approaching, remember, VMK Staff loves to see creative uses of ride pieces when judging rooms.

Did you know you can combine the different ride tracks? You can connect them together in your rooms to make it look like players are going through different environments. Try hiding the transition pieces behind furniture or trees to create the illusion that the ride is going into a different area. What's better than leaving the cold tundra of Everest then sliding down a waterpark slide in sunny, warm VMK?

Try experimenting with drops. All of your pieces don't have to line up perfectly height-wise. You can link uphill pieces to take you up high, then have a sudden drop down to a lower level piece. This looks neat when you alternate the ups and downs to give the riders a bouncing effect.

You've Got Questions, Yeti Has Answers

I love football and I love cartoons! Has Disney ever made any football cartoons?

- CL_Ferriz

Dear CL_Ferriz,

"How to Play Football" was a Goofy cartoon released in 1944. In this cartoon, Goofy and his friends teach you how to play football! Taxidermy Tech and Anthropology A&M go head to head to see who will win this college football battle. To see the final score, check out "Walt Disney Treasures–The Complete Goofy" to find this silly sports cartoon and more from your favorite Goofy guy!

Goofy has made a lot of "How To" cartoons. His first of this series of cartoons were "How to Ride a Horse" and "How to Play Baseball" in the 1940's. He's made over 20 of these informative shorts. Some of his latest you might have seen on the "House of Mouse" include "How to be Groovy, Cool and Fly" and "How to be a Rock Star."

Do you have a question for me?

Send it to me through the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you (the email and information you registered with) and select "Dear Yeti" from the drop down menu. Each week I'll answer a question or two here in the Newsletter.

Push's Trash Trivia Push's Trash Trivia

image:NewsletterPushtrivia.jpg

One actor has been the voice of Donald Duck since the 1940's, this film marks the last time he provided the characters voice, what is it? (Hint: It's the same film that the current voice of Mickey Mouse made his first appearance.)

Know the answer?

Send your answer using Contact Us at the bottom of this or the main VMK webpage. Be sure to have your VMK registration info with you and select Push's Trash Trivia from the drop down menu. Out of all the correct answers, three players will be randomly drawn as the winners and sent a cool prize. But hurry! Only entries submitted by the close of game on Friday will be accepted.

Here's the answer to last weeks Trash Trivia question:

Q: Holiday decorations have appeared at the Disneyland Resort in California - do you know where are these holiday wreaths hung?

image:PushTrivia-11-20-06-PushPic.jpg

A: it's a small world opened at Disneyland on May 28, 1966. Since 1997 Disneyland has transformed this attraction for the holidays. To do so, it takes an army of craftsmen almost an entire month to fill the attraction with holiday cheer, including the over 300,000 lights that decorate the front of the attraction.

Image:Pushtrivia-2006-11-28-smlwr.jpg

Did you know: it's a small world was designed by Mary Blair, an Art Director on such films as Cinderella and Peter Pan. The ride was introduced to the public not at Disneyland but at the 1964/1965 World's Fair, it was moved to Disneyland in 1966.

Congratulations to the 3 lucky (and randomly picked) players that sent in the correct answer for last week's question!

What makes a Guest Room award-worthy?

Guest or Game Rooms that stand out show originality in concept and design. It could be a use of conventional furniture in unconventional ways, the use of a theme or color, or humor. Game rooms that get the nod offer a new game idea or a new twist on an old favorite. In all rooms we look for room owners who welcome everyone with a smile and show a willingness to answer questions about their room.
