This week:
Using new pirate items - room building Tips and Tricks!
As our pirate themed month is comes to an end, newly released pirate-themed items make the month a pirate room builders dream come true! I thought I'd use this week's Room Makeover to show you some fun and clever ways to use those cool new pirate pieces!
Stone Bridge Halves, PPR Small Islands, Pirate Maze Walls, and ALR Cave Walls! Oh my! So many pieces to build with, so little time!
The new Stone Bridge Halves are replicas of the bridges Guests drift under on the real Pirates of the Caribbean attractions. On the ride in the Parks, these bridges seperate the scenes and move the story along. Our virtual bridges can be turned in four different directions – but what's really neat are those flickering torches, which you have the ability to turn on and off! plus, these bridges can be used to make intricate mazes or act as ride room props.
Tip:When building a ride with bridges, put down the track before you add the Stone Bridge Halves.
During VMK's Pirates of the Caribbean Ride-a-Thon, PPR Small Islands were given out as the event reward. If you've collected a lot of them, you know just how useful they can be! They are stackable like Coffee Table Crates but about a third of the size – they're especially useful when elevating PPR Mermaid Waterfalls and PPR Small Islands 2.
You can create miniature islands with just one island and a few accessories or group them together to form bigger islands. These pieces also come in handy when building games. For example, just using a few Random Number Generators you can see who can get their Evil Queen Skull Candles to the last island the quickest!
Tip: PPR Small Islands work best with the Empty Dark Ride Room because of their water ripples.
The Pirate Maze Walls, Cannon Walls, and Turrets have been a staple for a quite a while in the Virtual Magic Kingdom. These now-retired walls can be stacked up really high, so you can use them as backdrops or create grand pirate forts! They are the largest of the stackable items, making them really great for creating multiple levels. Just stack a few rugs atop a pair of Walls and you'll be able to walk on them! The Maze Walls also make great, what else, Mazes.
Tip: The Maze and Cannon Walls are 3 spaces long while the Turrets are only 2 spaces long – so use Turrets in smaller spaces.
Pirates are a tricky lot! The ALR Cave Walls, Tall Corners, and Arches can be used to build mazes as well but here I've used them to create a secret pirate treasure cave and a long tunnel for my mini pirate adventure ride. While the ALR Cave Walls are not stackable, they can be placed on top of other stackable items. Here I've used Coffee Table Crates to create multiple layers of stone to create a backdrop for my room that goes right up to the ceiling!
Tip: If you can't stack an item, use other stackable items to create levels.
Arrgh! These are just some of the ways you can use pirate pieces – remember with a little imagination, you can build anything! See you next week!
